Conceived in
1995, Art.com was built on the vision
of childhood friends, Joshua
Chodniewicz and Michael Marston, who
recognized the Internet as the ideal
way to make it easy for people to
quickly find and order exactly what
they are looking for.
From his parents' home in New Jersey,
21-year-old Joshua began developing
the business model while Michael built
the back-end infrastructure between
classes at Virginia Tech. The pair
spent two years turning concept into
reality. With focused dedication, a
natural business and technical savvy,
and a lot of hard work, the company
was launched (as Allwall.com) in 1997
offering 3,100 products. By the end of
2001, the company had acquired the
Art.com name, grew their selection to
over 100,000 products and with the
1999 addition of a custom framing
service, Art.com provided online
shoppers with millions of product
combinations offering convenience,
speed and value.
